My Health Career®(MHC) is a web-based, interactive program to help middle and high school students, college students and adults explore careers in the health field. It contains a self-assessment program which matches personal interests and career criteria with over 100 health professions and recommends the health profession(s) best suited to you. Each health profession profile provides complete health occupation descriptions, degree and/or certificate requirements, local academic training programs, expected average salary outcomes based on the most recent data within the Catskill Hudson region and a grade tracking and career goal component specifically for high school students. It also contains local Career Model profiles in which local healthcare professionals share their experiences of what interested them in their particular health career, where they got their training, what brought them to live and work in the Catskill Hudson region, and helpful advice for anyone interested in their health career field. In addition, MHC also lists information about local Catskill Hudson AHEC-sponsored programs such as health exploration camps, career days and various fun educational programs. We invite healthcare professionals to become Career Models by completing the Authorization and Career Model forms and faxing them to (845) 883-7837. The information you enter will be posted on the www.catskillhudsonahec.org, My Health Career® website soon after submission. MHC is a free resource that Catskill Hudson AHEC hopes to link directly to middle and high school computers as a comprehensive healthcare career resource for students and a teaching tool for teachers and guidance counselors throughout our 11-county region. Catskill Hudson AHEC is currently in the process of developing the Health Professionals component of the MHC website. This will be a resource that provides health professionals with information on additional training opportunities within the Catskill Hudson region, job opportunities, and information on what it's like to live in our area, relocation information and a resume-posting feature. Updates will be provided when the Health Professionals component is completed. In order to better navigate the MHC website, we invite you to review our MHC Tutorial (in PDF format) which will give you step-by-step instruction on how to navigate through the Students & Career Seekers component of MHC. Please click here for the MHC FAQ page. If you have any questions or would like our staff to provide a MHC demonstration, contact us at (845) 883-7260 or via email at chahec@hvi.net. |
